Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care at St. Paul’s United Church (SPUC) is provided by the Minister in partnership with a dedicated group of volunteers who make up the Lay Visitor’s Team.  Together they extend the spirit of God’s love to those who are no longer able to attend church on a regular basis by either visiting in person or connecting via the telephone.

Through their work they bring words of encouragement to those who are shut-in and no longer able to attend worship. Visits provide a source of comfort and spiritual connection with the greater congregation of St. Paul’s for those being visited and for their family members.

On four occasions throughout the year, the team takes the elements from the Communion Table, and shares them with those who wish to receive it. With the financial support of the congregation, cards, as well as a suitable gift, are purchased for each person being visited during the Easter and Christmas seasons. These small tokens serve as visible connections back to “the church with the open arms”, and are always sincerely appreciated by those being visited.

Acts 20:35: “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
